India Pale Ale IPA
India pale ale is a hoppy beer style that originated in England in the late 1700s as an export to India. Initially IPAs were pale ales were formulated to survive long voyages by sea by adding extra hops and making them stronger. In the In the 19th century pale ales were overshadowed by pale lagers, and it wasn’t until the 1970s that microbreweries in the United States revived this beer style. Using American ingredients, including hops, brewers in the U.S. essentially evolved the IPA style into what is known as the American IPA and the double IPA or Imperial IPA.
